Before we can tell you how long it’ll take, what it costs and everything else you want to know, there needs to be a discussion about what you have and what you want it to look like. From there we can come up with the scope of your paint job. Every project is a one-off with one-off problems, one-off solutions. You don’t need this, you want this, so a few things to consider before diving in:

• What’s the goal? What’s the vision?

• What does this bike mean to you?

• Do you have a budget for this project?

You’ll most likely paint this bike once -do it right once, the first time and get it done exactly how you want - don’t hold out on yourself.

Once we’ve discussed and nailed down the project or have come to some general understadning of an overall design concept, along with any of the finer nuanced details, we will determine the cost of the project and you will receive a quote or estimate along with a deposit invoice.

Place your deposit and you’ll have secured your space for the next open calendar slot that will have been discussed prior to payment.

Custom design deposit- If you are in need a custom design, something beyond what you can design or physically conceptualize on your own, we are happy to comission our time in design, to create a unique design for you and this bike. This additional labor charge is considered your submission for space in our schedule. See “Custom Design” below for more info on how to get started.

At this point, if we’ve established a paint job, landed on colors, ordered decals, etc. and everything is set in stone, then you’re patiently waiting in line while we pave our way through the queue towards your project. We’ll contact you when your project is on deck or being started.

If we discussed creating a custom design for your bike, you’ll have paid for design time and now you’re waiting to see paint samples or a design.

This process is a very much unique process and with that, what your bike becomes, very much comes from you and your inspiration first. Without it, there is no starting point as there is an endless array of options and avenues to blindly go through. Since we don’t know you or your taste, you will be expected to be part of the project’s initial brainstorming process. Please come prepared or be prepared to find and supply inspiration of what you like in order to get your design going down the right track.

Once you’ve shared everything you can and we’ve talked it all out and have a general scope of what this design is going to entail, you will receive an invoice for design time prior to the start of any designing.

If you’re simply waiting on a design or some kind of test sample, please be patient, you have not and will not be forgotten.

Please note that a custom design requires labor in advance to physically starting your paint job. Because of this, custom design labor will be billed in advance. Custom design is billed hourly, in most cases, starting with an initial 5 hour design window starting at $750.

The weeks leading up to paint, if we have your metal frame on hand, depending on the bike, we’ll hand and start to begin this process ourselves or we are dropping it off with our trusted friends to have it chemically stripped and for the steel and aluminum frames, lightly media blasted in order to ensure proper adhesion for primer.

Your carbon fiber frameset will never be completely stripped down to a raw carbon substrate unless we’ve discussed why it’s being done and agree on doing so.

Preparation is key to a professional and proper job of any sort. It’s also a big percentage of the involved time on each project that we do here.

Your carbon bike is sanded and ready or your metal bike raw and media blasted or brushed and we are wiping it down with a degreasing solution to clean it entirely. After that we begin taping (masking) off any area on the bike that should not get primed or painted (bottom bracket, head tube, seat tube, chrome/stainless, etc…).

Your bike is jigged up and ready to have primer sprayed. Primer is what holds onto the bikes surface as well as what paint likes to hold onto.

After primer is down and cured, we sand it smooth to ensure a nice surface, and more importantly a proper surface for paint to hold onto. If we need to prime again for any reason we’ll do this just before laying color down.

Any parts of the bike that need to be primed but not painted (brake posts, dropouts faces..) these spots get masked off just before proceeding to laying down any color.

Color is next. First we spray a couple coats of the base color, the main color of the bike, until it’s completely coated. After that, the process of masking for more color and spraying graphics begins.

We use the highest quality prodcuts the industry has to offer, from trusted brands such as PPG, Axalta, House of Kolor and 3M .

This is the final step. The bike is coated with a gloss or matte finish. This seals and protects the paint below. A gloss finish is polished to a shine where as a matte finish does not get polised.

This is when you’ll either schedule to pick it up in person or the bike is packed back up and prepped to be shipped back home to you.
